Front Royal is at the north end of Skyline Drive, where the Front Royal Entrance Station starts the drive at mile 0. The Dickey Ridge Visitor Center is a few miles up.
South of town, the South Fork of the Shenandoah runs past Shenandoah River State Park and the river outfitters at Bentonville and Front Royal.
