Help and support
Write to hello@hikeshenandoah.com with anything: a question, a problem with the app or the site, a correction, or a report. A person reads every message, usually within a day.
The iPhone app
Do I need an account?
No. The map, drive times, stays, hikes, trip sheets and alerts all work without one. An account keeps your saved places on every device, lets you ask a host a question, and is how hosts and business owners run their listing.
Using it with no signal at the trailhead
Most trailheads in the park have no cell signal. Before you go, save your stops, open Trip and tap Download for offline. Each stop's trip sheet, parking details and map then open in Airplane Mode.
Old Rag ticket and closure alerts
Open the Now tab, then Alerts. Pick an Old Rag hike date and the app reminds you on both ticket sale days; follow parking lots to hear when they close or reopen. Turn alerts off in the same place, and we delete your phone's notification token.
Why are drive times shorter than my trip?
They are free-flow estimates from our own routing on OpenStreetMap roads: no traffic, no stops. They are for comparing places fairly, not for timing your arrival. How drive times work.
Your account
Create an account or sign in
In the app, tap the person icon at the top of the Explore map. On the website, use Create an account or Sign in. Creating an account means agreeing to the terms of use.
Forgot your password
Use Forgot your password?: we email you a link to sign in and choose a new one.
Delete your account
In the app: the person icon, then Delete account. On the website: Your account, then Delete your account. It happens at once and removes your account and what is tied to it; the privacy policy lists exactly what goes and what stays.
Hosts and business owners
List or claim your place
Listing and claiming are free. Start at For hosts; a claim goes through at once, and you can edit your listing, add your own photos and answer travelers' questions from the website or the app (the person icon, then Hosting).
Questions from travelers
"Ask the host" emails you each question with the traveler as the reply-to address; reply from your own inbox. If someone is abusive, block them from the question on your dashboard or in the app. Their questions stop, they aren't told, and we look into it.
Verify your listing
Verifying shows "Host verified" and lets you change the links that send guests elsewhere. We email a link to an address at your business's own domain, or call the number it publishes.
Report a problem
Every stay, place and event page, on the website and in the app, has Report a problem at the bottom: wrong information, a closed business, or content that breaks our rules. We act on reports within a day. In the app, Hide this listing removes a listing from your own map and lists.
